About St Dominics

St Dominics is a privately owned Residential Care Home situated in Kelvedon, Essex, with excellent rail and road links.

The Home is adjacent to the local Catholic Church. Churches of other denominations are within walking distance.

Following our latest unannounced inspection by our governing body, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) on 8th January 2019 we were assessed as Good overall.  The subsequent report was published on 23rd January 2019. View our CQC history and latest report via this link.

We continue to provide an excellent standard of care and the majority of our residents come from recommendations.

We provide a varied activities programme which caters for the residents in residence at that time.  Activities are organised by the Activities Team with the support of volunteers from time to time who are often made up of young people wanting to go into the healthcare industry to become nurses, doctors, physiotherapists and such like, as well as occasionally, ex-residents' family members and those who are retired but want to keep active and help within the community.  As well as entertainers coming into the home and local outings, we also have an interactive mobile sensory screen and a sensory room dedicated to stimulating and enhancing the lives of our dementia residents.

We also promote integration with the local community, encouraging visits from local schools, local churches and young people’s associations, such as the Brownies and Cubs etc.  We also venture out locally, for example, to the Labour Club for coffee morning.

Gold Standard Framework
We are thrilled to announce that we have once again completed the GSF Care Homes Reaccreditation Assessment and have been awarded the Quality Hallmark Award at Platinum status, which recognises the sustained practice to maintain GSF in our Home.

So, what does all this mean.  The Gold Standard Framework is an ethos that runs right through all of our systems ensuring that residents from when they arrive, right through to and if and when they require palliative care and support.

The reaccreditation takes place every three years, though this is due to change to an annual review.  We were the first residential home in Essex to be awarded to this standard.  This year we scored so highly (57 out of 60) we are being nominated for ‘Care Home of the Year 2022’ and have been selected by their panel to go through to the next round of selection.  Since the majority of care homes who achieve this status are nursing homes, this makes it all the more special!

As part of this growing community of care homes who demonstrate excellence in care, GSF have requested to use some of our work as showcased examples of best practice to encourage and inspire others.  Since this framework is mainly used in nursing homes we are honoured to be asked.
